PSYCHIATRICISSUES IN CHILD TEMPORAL EPILEPSIES
ABSTRACT:
Temporal lobe epilepsies include a heterogeneous group of disorders which have in common the topographical origin of the seizures, but with various etiologies, ages of onset, prognostic, and the effects of chirurgical and medical treatment. Afterwards, a better understanding of the importance of neuroanatomical structures and of neurochimical mechanisms within the psychiatric disorders and also of the temporal lobe influence over certain cognitive functions (attention, memory, language), over the emotional states and the human behavior, determined the acceptance of the fact that the epileptic patients have a high susceptibility to develop psychiatric disorders.
The present work wants to present a detailed description of the psychiatric pathology within the temporal epilepsy. There are classified into periictal and interictal manifestations.
At present the psychopathology is accepted to be integrant part of some epilepsy syndromes, fact which needs a complex interdisciplinary collaboration between pediatric psychiatry and neurology for an adequate management of both epileptic seizures and psychiatric disorders.
