It’s hard to point and reflect in only several rows the significant facts of life where to evoke the memory of the one that has been Prof. Dr. Tiberiu Mircea, from whom we splited with pain in 20/05/2015.
It’s an honor, but also a professional duty to know its merits that are placing him in the Pantheon Memorial forerunners in our specialty, the first professor of pediatric psychiatry UMF Timisoara.
Of course, these facts of life with a profound subjective and emotional load occurring along the road and time, with a team that he formed and to wich he was able to mark the love for this noble purpose of ours and our desire to continue the way opened to us
A memorial is in essence a painful thing, but at the same time an occasion to remember, to bring key moments in our consciousness, moments that marked our existence.
Historically, the road begins on his birth at 28’th of April, 1946 in Timisoara, the second son of Dr. Mircea Lazar, Head of Department at Ftiziopediatrics within Children’s Hospital No. 3 Timisoara. The profesor gladly story , that often, as a child, used to his father at the same hospital where he would work over the years.
We fondly remember his warm smile and gentle eyes while telling us fragments of his children’s hospital history: „Perhaps those memories led me in my career choice.”
He followed the family tradition by graduating the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Timisoara in 1969, than his internship in psychiatry, specialty adults, being confirmed as a psychiatrist specialist in 1974. Since 1981 is Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at UMF Timisoara discipline and 1995 lays the foundation of discipline Pedopsihiatrie and Psychology and Pharmacy Timisoara, representing one of the strongest disciplines training centers for interns in the two specialties, along with Bucharest and Cluj.
His vision on the field , the quality of his teaching and formative courses are well rendered and edited in the edited book volumes.
His collaborators loved him as a man with a wide opening, appreciated him as a physician and head of department, for his professional competence and dedication, his profound democratic spirit of his decisions and especially as a teacher, being the first professor of child psychiatry and initiator of universitary school in Timisoara, where he founded pediatric psychiatry discipline.
To his enjoyed foundation esteem were the elegance, the distinction, deeply human qualities, collegiality and the solicitude that he showed, harmoniously combined with a broad professional integrity, while demonstrating flexibility and freedom of opinions and a deep understanding of the values.
In parallel with the head physician and professor of child psychiatry discipline activity, he understud its need for binding with scientific research within interdisciplinary collaborationes with academics of scientific rigor valued at home and abroad.
His work resulted in multiple scientific papers and published books and trough the foundation of the Research Center, CNCSIS and internationally accredited, recognized in 2004: „Family and Child Center – child and adolescent psychiatry and neurology” being named director of the National Council of Research in Higher Education.
He had multiple professional recognition functions, national and international, such as: Vice President of the European Society of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (ESCAP) 1999-2004 extraordinary member of the Society for Logotherapy and Existential Analysis (GLE), Vienna, member of the Scientific Committee the magazine „Santé Quebec mentors” (Canada), member of the International Family Therapy Association (IFTA).
He was the founding member of the Romanian Society of Child and Adolescent Neurology and Psychiatry (SNPCAR), President of that society during the period 1997-2001 and 2005-2008, honorary member and editor of the Romanian Journal of Child and Adolescent Neurology and Psychiatry.
Since the founding of SNPCAR until the last moments of his life, he championed SNPCAR prestige and reputation nationally and internationally, constantly supporting the need for a society, which keeps together the specialties of child and adolescent neurology and psychiatry and allied professions in the large family of Neuropsychiatry in Romania.
He founded and led the discipline of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry from 1981 to 2012, being the first professor of child psychiatry UMF Timisoara.
After 1996 he introduced the concept of developmental psychopathology and family systems approach training curricula for students, residents and young specialists.
His own approach to child and adolescent psychiatry materialized in three volumes published in 2004, 2006 and 2008 under the direction of Prof. Dr. Mircea Tiberiu, „Dissertation of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Developmentalăa”.
In these three dissertations the registered psychopathological disorders that according to DSM or ICD classifications are described staged, every age stage, stressing that there are changes symptomatic expression of different intensities throughout development.
The approach in this manner is trying to make sense of developmental psychopathology „in Romanian.
Everything he has achieved during his professional life what he left in our memory and soul, are the expression of a complex personality is a model for our young colleagues.
